The photos are particularly important (they’re each worth a thousand words, as you may have heard!) so please take a look at our Photography Tips. You may already have a lot of photos of your Market, but if they don’t achieve what we look for, we may not be able to post them. If you can visit the Market again, maybe you can get the additional photos that we describe.
When you get around to making a submission, we have a form for you to fill out as best you can. The information we want is pretty straightforward. We’ll want to know things like, how big is the Market? How many vendors are there? What are the normal hours of operation? Roughly what percentage of vendors deal in food products and how many of those sell prepared food? Does the Market have an area for eating on the premises? Is it all indoors or is there some outdoor element?
Does the structure have significance? When was it built and was it originally built as a Market? Are there any points of historical interest? Is the Market known for a particular product or cultural tradition?
Is it welcoming for tourists or is it strictly a locals Market? Are there multiple languages spoken? Are the restrooms and common areas clean and comfortable? Do vendors accept cash only and is there an ATM on the premises?
It’s not essential to get every little piece of information since much can be learned through a little research and by contacting the Market after the visit, but it’s always helpful to get a first-hand impression of the place. Whether it’s a Market you frequent in your neighborhood, or one you’ve encountered while traveling, we very much look forward to hearing about it.
